Japan, UNDP Distribute Farm Inputs to Adamawa Farmers

Government of Japan in collaboration with UNDP on Wednesday started the distribution of agricultural inputs to some rural farmers in Adamawa.
The exercise was held in the Loko village of Song Local Government Area of Adamawa, under the UNDP Integrated Community Stabilisation Project in North East.
The Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Yutaka Kikuta said that the government of Japan in collaboration with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) was providing the inputs with necessary technical support.

Kitaku said that the support from Japan to the North East sub region seriously affected by insurgency was in line with its commitment in helping beneficiaries to meet some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In her remarks, the UNDP Deputy Country Director, Operations, Mrs Batty Wabunoha lauded the support from Japan to various programmes in the North East.
“We had a number of activities in the region basically under the regional programme under UNDP for which we have been able to mobilise 17 million dollars in 2018.
“This is from various donors including the government of Japan.

“Our activities in this region are targeting 9,000 households in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
“Additional activities of support through Japanese government included rehabilitation and reconstructions of schools and boreholes in the region.”
Gov. Muhammadu Bindow, represented by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, lauded UNDP and expressed appreciation to the government and people of Japan for their support in stabilising communities affected by insurgency in Adamawa.

“Boko Haram has showed us the worst in humanity but with gestures like these that we are receiving from Japan and UNDP have shown us the best in humanity and we are grateful.”
He reiterated government’s commitment to addressing challenges facing the state, particularly in areas of poverty and insecurity, and called for more support to the resilient people of the state as they struggled “to pick up the pieces’’.
Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of the farm inputs to beneficiaries and the distribution of solar lantern donated by a Japanese company, Panasonic.
