Polaris Bank, COPE Supports Breast Cancer Survivors

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Polaris Bank has intervened in the treatment of more than 50 women with breast cancer across the country.
In addition, the bank also donated two ultra-modern breast cancer screening machines to an NGO, Care Organisation Public Enlightenment Foundation to conduct free screening.

The Group Managing Director/CEO of the bank, Tokunbo Abiru, said at a get-together for the cancer survivors in Ikeja that the gesture was to demonstrate the organisation’s love and care for the patients and survivors.
The theme of this year’s event is “Celebrating Our Pink Heroes”.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Polaris Bank had on September 22 acquired Skye Bank.
Abiru, who was represented by Segun Opeke, the Directorate Head, Lagos Business of the bank, said safety and healthcare remained one of the pillars of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

He promised that the bank in partnership with its Care Organisation Public Enlightenment Foundation was committed to the fight against breast cancer scourge in the country through increased awareness, advocacy and support for both patients and survivors.
He said: “For us at Polaris Bank, our commitment to the fight against breast cancer is unwavering.
“We have consistently demonstrated this by drawing public awareness to the menace in addition to sponsoring free screening for women in conjunction with C.O.P.E Foundation.”
Abiru said in the last 10 years, the bank had covered four key areas — prevention, detection, treatment and advocacy.

He said: “These include provision of free screening opportunities for over 15,000 women including female staff members of the bank.
“And the donation of two ultra-modern breast cancer screening machines (LogiQ C2 and Mind Ray Ultra-Sound System) to enhance
    quality diagnosis and clinical practices.’’
Also speaking, the President of C.O.P.E, Ebunola Anozie, said the get-together was a platform to thank God for the lives of the survivors and to appreciate the bank for its support to breast cancer patients in Nigeria.

    Anozie said: “This year, we decided to bring it here to say thank God and to exchange gifts as well. I also appreciate our sponsors, Polaris Bank;
they have been with us for nearly 20 years now.
“For sometime, we had difficulty getting the required support for the women; some of our women used handkerchiefs, some used tissues to fill up their bras.
“The bank donated prosthesis to ensure that they live better lives.”
A breast cancer survivor, Nnenna Obasi, said she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, and by seeking immediate medical attention and with the support of her family and organisations like C.O.P.E and Polaris Bank, she overcame the life-threatening problem.

She stressed the need for early detection of cancer and immediate medical attention as well as healthy feeding and healthy lifestyle including staying joyful as important steps to overcome breast cancer scourge.
Obasi said the diagnosis did not amount to the end of life for her and commended the bank and C.O.P.E for their support and encouragement to get back to normal life.
