The current surge of cases shows no signs of slowing down. Health
authorities consider stricter measures as new cases surpassed the 1,000 mark again
since the pandemic began.
Nigeria has tested 980,046 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on 27 February 2020.
According to the latest data released by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos continues to be the most affected state, with 712 new infections reported. The commercial city is Nigeria’s coronavirus hotspot with total of 32,687 infections and 250 fatalities as at today, about a third of the country’s total inflections.
Other states with new coronavirus infections are FCT-145, Plateau-117, Kwara-81, Kaduna-54, Sokoto-39, Oyo-38, Rivers-37, Gombe-21, Enugu-20, Akwa Ibom-16, Bauchi-14, Delta-14, Ebonyi-13, Anambra-9, Taraba-8, Edo-8, Kano-3, Osun-2 Ekiti-2 and Ogun-1.
According to NCDC on the 5th of January 2021, 1,354 new confirmed cases and 1 death was recorded in Nigeria.
Till date, 92,705 cases have been confirmed, 76,396 cases have been discharged and 1,319 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Our discharges today include 324 community recoveries in Lagos State and 137 community recoveries in FCT managed in line with guidelines.
