Breakout will be directed by Scott Waugh (The Expendables 4)
and will see the veteran action movie star play a character named Terry
Reynolds.
“When his stepson, Daniel, is framed and sentenced to 25
years in a foreign country, Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and
must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid
capture and flee the country,” reads the official logline for the film.
Production on the film is set to begin sometime later this
year in Eastern Europe, from a screenplay written by Richard D’Ovidio (The Last
Frontier, The Call). Breakout will also be produced by Anton and Off The Pier
Productions, with no other official casting or release information available as
of yet.
This will be Schwarzenegger’s first film acting role in four
years, with the legend’s last role coming in 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.
Schwarzenegger is set to star in the upcoming Netflix spy adventure series
FUBAR, as well as appear in Kung Fury 2, the sequel to the 2015 cult classic
featurette Kung Fury, which is slated to release sometime this year.
Schwarzenegger has also been in talks to appear in the
planned sequel to the 1988 buddy comedy film Twins, which will be called
Triplets. However, following the death of director Ivan Reitman, Schwarzenegger
said those behind the film are waiting to readdress things sometime in the
future.
