The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Arif Alvi, who is also the Chairman of OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), received participants of the 2nd Meeting of COMSTECH Scientific Advisory Council, held on Monday, 12 June 2023 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The President stressed the urgent need for closer interaction between the OIC Member States in the ongoing era of rapid and unprecedented transformation of science, education and technology.
In his remarks to the Council meeting, H.E. Amb. Askar Mussinov, Assistant Secretary-General for Science & Technology underscored the importance of COMSTECH as OIC Institution in assisting the OIC Member States development in the field of science and technology. He further stressed the need for concerted endeavour of scientifically most advanced OIC nations over the cause of creating scientific centres of excellence and a coherent scientific space within the OIC area. In this regard, he reiterated the continuous commitment of the OIC General Secretariat to facilitate this sort of collaboration, together with COMSTECH Secretariat, within the framework of recently established OIC-15 Dialogue Platform.
COMSTECH Coordinator General, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary made in his statement an extensive review of COMSTECH’s most recent and ongoing activities. He also briefed the Council on the agenda items and expected outcomes of the meeting.
The meeting of COMSTECH Scientific Advisory Council brought together both online and offline scholars and intellectuals from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria and Türkiye.
The meeting of COMSTECH Scientific Advisory Council took into consideration the draft of Ten Year Strategic STI Plan for COMSTECH yet to be finalised.
