The Headies, Nigeria’s most prestigious music award show, released the much anticipated nominations list for its 16th edition on Wednesday.

The list features an array of both local and international artists that have been recognised for their contribution to the music scene in the past year.

Notably, Damini Ogulu, a Grammy award-winner popularly known as Burna Boy, received the most nods on the list with a total of 11 nominations.

The Grammy award winner, Burna Boy will battle for the ‘Song of the Year’ award with Kizz Daniel, Oxlade, Rema and two others at the 16th Headies Award.

Burna Boy‘s song, ‘Last Last’ from his Love, Damini album, has been nominated for the song of the year award. His song will seek to overcome Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ and Oxlade’s ‘Ku Lo Sa.’

“Last Last” was released through Atlantic Records on 13 May 2022 as the first single from his sixth studio album, ‘Love, Damini.’ The song samples American singer Toni Braxton’s 2000 single, “He Wasn’t Man Enough.”

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ is from his from his debut studio album Rave & Roses (2022). It was released on 11 February 2022, through Jonzing World and Mavin as the album’s second single.

The song charted across Europe, reaching number one on the Belgian Ultratop 50, Dutch Top 40 and Dutch Single Top 100. In the United Kingdom, the song peaked at number three and spent twenty-seven non-consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart.

Kizz Daniel and Tekno’s ‘Buga’ will pose a still challenge to Burna Boy’s song, while Pheelz Ft. Bnxn’s ‘Finesse’ is also in the contest.

Kizz Daniel and Tekno’s Buga is the hottest Afrobeats song of the moment. The song has attained yet another monumental feat as it amasses over 100 million streams on Boomplay, thus, making history as the first song to achieve this on the streaming platform.

Also, Asake Ft. Burna Boy’s song, ‘Sungba Remix’ is also nominated for the contest.  Sungba Remix by Asake featuring Burna Boy is another banger with a fantastic rhythm delivery and well-blended vocals.
