According to the organizers, the event will take place at
Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos State, spanning two days between May 10th and May
11th. And will celebrate talents in film production, culture, fashion, music,
and other aspects of African entertainment.
The organizers disclosed details of the 10th edition’s
activities during a press conference held on Tuesday.
The AMVCA is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice,
recognizing outstanding achievement in television since its inception in 2013.
Speaking on the nominations, Head Judge for the 9th edition
of AMVCA, Femi Odugbemi, according to him, the nominees list for this year’s
edition will also be out on March 24. Continuing he added “the nominations for
each category, the organisers said it is subjective to “specific criterias and
processes” by the jury.
“The nominations of the AMVCA are determined by specific
criterias and processes determined by the jury in conjunction with Delloite.
“One of such major changes is that the award categories have
been reduced from 33 to 27, adding that the development was in order “to meet
global trends and standards”.
“And the 10th edition of AMVCA will now see winners in 25
categories including 2 special recognition awards.”, he added.
Addressing the impact of the AMVCA, the Executive Head of
Content & Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice highlighted its undeniable
influence on the continent’s movie industry.
She said “let me give you some numbers – since inception in
2013, the AMVCAs have injected over N623 billion into the film and television
economy, N9 billion in awards events, training, and logistics, creating over 27
000 long & short-term jobs through the development of critical skills and
honoring the industry stars.“
