Seyi Awolowo, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry known for his participation in the Big Brother Naija reality show and subsequent acting career, shared his personal experiences and the challenges he faced during his upbringing.
In a recent interview with renowned media figure Chude
Jideonwo, the prominent reality television personality disclosed that he had
experienced multiple instances of estrangement from his father.
Regarding his challenging upbringing in a polygamous
setting, the late Obafemi Awolowo’s grandson shared that his father maintained
meticulous records for each child.
He said, “My father disowned me a couple of times. Not just
me, a couple of us because my father married three wives.
“My father wrote letters to cut off his children, reducing
our identities to mere names on a list. We all have files. ‘As of right now,
your name is just Seyi, full stop’”.
Seyi Awolowo is the 20th direct descendant of
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a prominent Nigerian nationalist and statesman who
played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s independence movement.
During a recent interview with Channels TV’s ‘The Morning
Brief’, the 33-year-old media personality revealed the possibility of pursuing
a political career, similar to his grandfather’s path.
The renowned media personality expressed that given the
current state of affairs in the nation, he may consider pursuing a career in
politics.
He expressed his desire for his family to reside in Nigeria
and fully experience the benefits of Nigerian citizenship.
“To be honest I would have loved not to get into politics
but with the way it seems in the country, it is as if I might have to. I would
not lie, I would just have liked to enjoy and be on the backbone of
entertainment,” he said.
