The governor of Kwara State, AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, has announced that the state is poised to take a leading role in the Nigerian film industry.

He expressed pride in Kwara being awarded the hosting rights for the 16th edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards, scheduled for November.

This prestigious event will gather key figures from the Nigerian film sector in Ilorin, the state capital.

During the ceremony where he received the hosting rights on Wednesday, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted that the awards will take place at the renowned Sugar Factory Film Studio, designed to elevate the Nigerian creative industry with advanced post-production capabilities.

In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor remarked, “We are privileged to host this year’s Best of Nollywood Awards. Kwara is indeed ready to lead in the film sector. The purpose of the Sugar Factory Film Studio is to enhance film production standards in Nigeria.”

The event was attended by prominent government officials and various Nollywood personalities from both within and outside the state.

AbdulRazaq emphasized that hosting the BON Awards will further promote the film studio within the industry, attracting legends who will participate in the event later this year.

He also noted the state's commitment to developing a robust service and hospitality sector in phases to attract quality visitors.

He said facilities like the film factory, visual arts centre, international conference centre, and the Kwara Hotel are a part of the plan
