Tebogo established a new African Record by securing the gold medal with a remarkable finishing time of 19.46 seconds, thereby surprising the reigning Olympic champion, Lyles Noah from the United States.

Erriyon Knighton, also from the USA, finished in fourth place with a time of 19.99 seconds, while Alexander Ogando from the Dominican Republic took fifth place, clocking in at 20.02 seconds.

This victory marks the first Olympic gold medal for Botswana.

Previously, Tebogo earned a silver medal in the 100m at the 2023 World Championships, followed by a bronze in the 200m just five days later.

He triumphed in the 100 metres and secured a second-place finish in the 200 metres at both the 2021 and 2022 World Athletics Under-20 Championships.

In 2021, he made history as the first athlete from Botswana to win the 100m title at any level of World Championships. Additionally, he became the youngest African champion in the 200m in 2022.

On February 17, 2024, he set a new world best in the 300m, completing the distance in 30.69 seconds at altitude in Pretoria, South Africa.
