The newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, Bruno Labbadia, has declined the position just three days after his announcement by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
This information was revealed in a report by the German
outlet Kicker on Friday.
"Kicker" reported that "Bruno Labbadia will
not take on the role of national coach for Nigeria. The 58-year-old German
coach had been in discussions with the NFF for a week but ultimately decided
against signing a contract on Friday."
BrandIconImage has learned that the NFF made the
announcement without a finalized contract in place.
Labbadia's appointment was shared in an early morning tweet
on Tuesday through the NFF's X account, using the hashtag #thenff.
The statement indicated, "The Nigeria Football
Federation has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with German coach
Bruno Labbadia to lead Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, the Super
Eagles."
According to Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the federation’s General
Secretary, "The NFF Executive Committee has endorsed the recommendation of
its Technical and Development sub-committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as
the Head Coach of the Super Eagles."
Labbadia is set to be the 37th head coach of the Super
Eagles following the resignation of former coach Finidi George. This situation
concludes the prolonged speculation regarding the new coach for the Super
Eagles.
