Cristiano Manna, the sporting director of Napoli, has confirmed that star striker Victor Osimhen has expressed a desire to depart from the club amid the ongoing transfer discussions regarding the Nigerian forward.
Osimhen, who is 25 years old and was named African
Footballer of the Year, has been the subject of considerable speculation in
recent weeks.
Although he recently signed a contract extension with Napoli
that includes a substantial £110 million release clause, reports indicate that
he has made it known that he wishes to terminate his relationship with the
Serie A club.
There were rumors of a potential transfer to Paris
Saint-Germain; however, that move did not materialize as the French champions
are no longer in pursuit of a new striker.
With the transfer window nearing its conclusion and no
resolution in sight, Osimhen remains with Napoli, leaving his future in a state
of uncertainty.
Manna stated, "Victor Osimhen has asked to leave the
club. He wants to go," as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
He further elaborated, "The situation is clear; there
were already opportunities for his exit last summer… Victor wants to
leave."
Manna concluded by suggesting that developments regarding
Osimhen's future may occur within the next 20 days.
