Swedish international midfielder Kristoffer Olsson, who was hospitalized in February due to a rare brain condition that impaired his motor and verbal abilities, has announced his return home from rehabilitation via social media.
The 29-year-old, currently with Danish Superliga club FC Midtjylland, lost consciousness at his residence on February 20 and was subsequently admitted to Aarhus University Hospital, where he required ventilatory support.
Medical evaluations revealed that he had experienced multiple small blood clots resulting from an uncommon inflammation of the brain's blood vessels.
In mid-March, he was moved to a rehabilitation facility to assist in recovering his motor and speech capabilities. “Six months later I’m back home,” he shared in an Instagram update.
The Swedish player regained his speech and motor functions by mid-April and was fit enough to present the SuperLiga trophy to his teammates in late May, expressing his intention to return to professional play.
However, neither he nor his club has provided a specific timeline for his comeback.
Originating from Norrkoping on Sweden’s east coast, Olsson made his competitive debut with Arsenal in 2013 and has played for clubs including Midtjylland, AIK in Sweden, Krasnodar, and Anderlecht, before permanently rejoining Midtjylland last summer after a loan period.
