This weekend, the Globacom-sponsored episode of African Voices Playmakers on CNN International will feature Nigeria's esteemed literary figure and global icon, Professor Wole Soyinka.

The 30-minute magazine program will explore Soyinka's philosophies and the fervor that have shaped his illustrious life and career.

The Nobel Laureate will share insights into his extraordinary journey, highlighting the principles and values that have guided his work.

Additionally, Soyinka will discuss his significant activism and its influence on his upcoming film, “The Man Died,” which addresses his political imprisonment in Nigeria and is set to premiere later this year. Born on July 13, 1934, Soyinka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986 for his profound cultural insights and poetic excellence.

His academic background includes studies at the University College Ibadan (now the University of Ibadan) and the University of Leeds in the UK.

Beyond the Nobel Prize, Soyinka has received numerous honors, including the Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature (1990), the Academy of Achievement Golden Plate Award (2009), the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Lifetime Achievement (2012), and the Europe Theatre Prize, Special Prize (2017).
