Apple has withdrawn from negotiations to join an OpenAI funding round anticipated to generate approximately $6.5 billion, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal on Friday.

The tech company recently exited discussions for the round, which is scheduled to conclude next week, as per sources familiar with the situation.

Other companies, including Microsoft and Nvidia, are reportedly still in talks to participate, with Microsoft expected to contribute around $1 billion following its previous investment of $13 billion in OpenAI.

OpenAI has chosen not to comment on the matter, and Apple has not yet responded to requests for a statement.

The Journal initially reported last month that Apple was involved in discussions as part of OpenAI's latest fundraising initiative, which could potentially value the ChatGPT developer at over $100 billion.

This high valuation stems from the competitive landscape ignited by OpenAI's release of ChatGPT in late 2022, prompting significant investments from various industries to maintain a competitive edge and secure market share.
