Last week, unions representing aviation professionals in the country criticized the Federal Government for its unwillingness to revoke the policy that reduces the internally generated revenues of aviation agencies by half.
The affected agencies include the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
However, in a statement released on September 17, 2024, and signed by Olayinka Abioye, the General Secretary of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), the workers announced the suspension of the planned protest.
“Based on recent information regarding ongoing discussions among higher authorities concerning the Federal Government's continued 50% deductions, I am pleased to inform our valued members that the protest scheduled for September 19, 2024, is suspended until we receive further updates from these discussions, which we will communicate to you in due course,” Abioye stated.
