A weather outlook published on Sunday indicated that thunderstorms are expected to occur in various areas, including Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states later today.
“Thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau and Kwara states during the morning hours.
“In the afternoon and evening periods, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue and Kogi states.
“Rains are envisaged over the southwest inland, especially parts of Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Ogun extending to the coastal states of Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states during the morning hours, “ it said.
The agency has reiterated that thunderstorms are anticipated in various regions, including Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos states later today.
NiMet stated, “Thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue and Nasarawa States within the morning hours.
“Later in the day thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau and Kwara States.
“Morning rains are envisaged over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States while the remaining parts of the South should be cloudy.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue states,” among others.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has advised residents to steer clear of areas susceptible to flooding, as significant rainfall is expected to increase the risk of urban flooding in major cities.
The statement added, “Adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities. Public and airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

The Federal Government urged Nigerians on Sunday to clean their canals, drainage systems, and gutters to help reduce the risk of flooding.
A report from the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) indicated that water levels at key monitoring stations along the River Benue are steadily rising and approaching flood thresholds.
In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity, Lauretta Samuel, it was noted that as of Saturday, the increase in water levels persists but remains within flood preparedness parameters.
Samuel called on the twelve states identified as flood-prone by NIHSA to implement measures to manage or facilitate water flow.
