TikTok announced on Monday the launch of its updated "Subscription" monetization feature for eligible creators in select regions, including Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, the U.K., Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S.

The platform intends to broaden this offering to more markets in the upcoming weeks.

This initiative follows TikTok's March announcement regarding the rebranding of its LIVE Subscription tool to "Subscription," which will now be available to creators beyond just live-streaming.

The Subscription feature positions TikTok as a competitor to platforms such as Patreon, enabling creators to provide exclusive content to paying subscribers. It also competes with Instagram Subscriptions and YouTube’s channel memberships, all designed to assist creators in monetizing their content through deeper engagement with their audience.

With this enhancement, creators can now grant subscribers exclusive access to videos, live streams, and notes that are only visible to paying users. Creators can offer three distinct subscription tiers, each with unique benefits available for a monthly fee.

Subscribers will receive advantages such as special stickers for use during live sessions, badges displayed next to their names in comments and profiles, and access to exclusive communication channels like Sub Space, a dedicated area for creators to engage with their subscribers.

Moreover, creators can customize perks tailored to their community by selecting from a variety of options provided by TikTok. These perks may include performance requests, Discord roles, shout-outs, behind-the-scenes content, and even opportunities for collaborative gaming.

To be eligible for the Subscription feature, creators must be at least 18 years old, have a minimum of 10,000 followers, and achieve 100,000 video views within the last month, with their accounts in good standing.
