Access Bank Plc has reiterated its dedication to empowering women in Southern Africa with the relaunch of its flagship ‘W’ Initiative in Zambia and Botswana.

This initiative is part of the bank's comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing financial inclusion and stimulating economic growth. It provides a variety of financial services designed specifically for women, including savings products, business loans, and mentorship opportunities.

In a statement released yesterday, Access Bank highlighted that the revitalized ‘W’ Initiative aims to uplift women in business and leadership roles by offering tailored financial solutions, enhancing financial literacy, and creating avenues for professional growth.

During the relaunch event in Zambia, Chizoma Okoli, Deputy Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, underscored the transformative impact of these programs.

She remarked, “Empowering women is fundamental to Access Bank’s mission of fostering economic growth throughout Africa. Through the ‘W’ Initiative, we strive to deliver customized financial solutions while cultivating environments where women can excel as entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders in their communities.”

Additionally, during her visit to Zambia, Okoli engaged with the country’s Vice President, Mrs. W.K. Mutale Nalumango, to explore strategies for enhancing women’s involvement in the nation’s economic progress.

In alignment with the country’s welfare initiatives, Access Bank Zambia committed K500,000 to support nutritional programs managed by the Vice President’s office. Nalumango praised Access Bank’s contributions, emphasizing the vital role women play in propelling Zambia’s economy.

“It is essential for women to acknowledge their worth and articulate their successes. Self-promotion and advocacy are vital for women and girls to progress, and initiatives like the ‘W’ Initiative offer the necessary support,” Nalumango stated.

Access Bank has reintroduced the ‘W’ Initiative in Botswana, offering a suite of innovative financial products tailored for women. These include loans for health, vacations, and education, along with high-yield savings accounts.

Sheperd Aisam, Managing Director of Access Bank Botswana, characterized the initiative as a “transformative platform” that equips women with not only financial products but also essential tools and networks for success.

“We are excited to launch the ‘W’ Initiative in Botswana. Our aim extends beyond providing financial products; we seek to inspire and empower women across various sectors,” Aisam stated.

Access Bank has a longstanding commitment to gender equality, having invested over N338.6 billion to support more than 3.6 million women throughout Africa. A notable feature of the initiative is the ‘W’ Health Loan, which addresses women’s health needs through affordable financing options. This includes the Maternal Health Service Support (MHSS), which funds fertility treatments, prenatal care, and specialized health services. Currently operational in Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, Mozambique, and Zambia, the MHSS has facilitated N245.5 million in financing for over 160 women, leading to the birth of 104 children.

The ‘W’ Initiative, active in 12 African nations, exemplifies Access Bank’s dedication to promoting women’s empowerment.

By providing innovative financial solutions and focusing on social impact, the bank continues to create pathways for women to seize opportunities that allow them to thrive both personally and professionally.
