This statement followed Kuti's criticism of her views on women's rights in Nigeria.
The exchange was sparked when Kuti suggested that Yesufu should “liberate herself from [her] hijab first” in response to her advocacy for women's freedom.
In her reaction to Kuti's remarks, Yesufu expressed on social media that Kuti's career, which she characterized as struggling, relies heavily on the legacy of his late father, the Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Yesufu wrote, “Seun Kuti wants to trend with my name as his karaoke business no make him blow alongside those wey dey do music. I don’t blame him! If only his father had discipline over his loin we wouldn’t be dealing with the consequences of that lack of discipline!”
She went on to call Kuti “a caricature” of his father.
Seun Kuti, renowned for his candid opinions and musical contributions, is the youngest son of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a trailblazer of Afrobeat and an iconic figure in the annals of Nigerian music.
