Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, has arrived in Mexico to participate in the global competition.

Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, Adetshina will represent Nigeria at this year’s Miss Universe pageant.

In an Instagram video, the model posed at a Mexican airport, wearing a white suit and green organza, proudly holding the Nigerian flag.

The Miss Universe Nigeria organizers also shared a sincere message which states, “We send our brightest wishes and unwavering support! May Nigeria’s vibrant spirit shine through you. Represent us with pride, strength, and grace. Bring home the crown!”

The 2024 Miss Universe pageant will be held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City on November 16. The reigning titleholder, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, will crown her successor at the conclusion of the event.

Chidimma was born in 2001 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.

This year, she became a focal point of controversy during the Miss South Africa pageant due to her nationality, which resulted in significant backlash on social media, especially from South Africans.

Adetshina subsequently decided to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition.

Her exit followed allegations from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) that preliminary evidence indicated her mother might have engaged in fraud and identity theft. In response to these claims, Chidimma stated, “I didn’t steal anyone’s identity.”

She later accepted an invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she ultimately emerged as the winner.

The model also refuted claims that her victory was due to “pity,” asserting that she underwent the same challenging process as all other contestants and emphasized, “I worked hard to earn my title.”

Recently, South African authorities announced intentions to revoke Chidimma's identity and travel documents.
