Nigerian music star Oladapo Daniel Oyebanji, widely recognized as D’Banj, has made his foray into football by founding Koko FC. The club is set to participate in Nigeria's premier private football league, Lagos Liga, which is slated to commence in December 2024.

Koko FC will face off against 11 other teams, including Supremos FC, established by D’Banj’s close associate and fellow music executive, Don Jazzy.

Other prominent teams in the league include Mavbrooks SC, created by entrepreneur and accountant Ayodeji E. Olowe; Applebee FC, founded by Nnazilim Egbuonu, co-founder and Executive Director of Travelbeta; Firecrackers FC, initiated by tech entrepreneur Stephanie Etiaka; Jarus FC, established by Suraj Oyewale, the Group CEO of Jarus Group, also known as Sir Jarus; Superstar FC, founded by tech entrepreneur Seye Bandele; and Knights FC, set up by Egbe Omorodion, Dr. Dipo Awojide, Adebayo Jacobs-Amoo, and Adewale Adetona.

The league is poised to offer an exhilarating platform for both amateur players and seasoned football veterans to engage in competitive 7-a-side matches.

The organizers have announced a prize pool of N50 million, marking the largest per-game prize in Nigerian football history.

D’Banj expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m eager to elevate my love for football with Koko FC.

“Lagos Liga is a groundbreaking platform that will highlight Nigerian talent and entertainment. I anticipate thrilling matchups against the other teams; it’s going to be a battle of giants!”

Mr. Favour Godfrey, a representative of Lagos Liga, also emphasized the league’s dedication to advancing sports, culture, and entertainment.

He remarked, “Our goal is to elevate Nigerian football on the global stage, extending beyond the accomplishments of our national teams. This is merely the beginning.”

The league's distinctive structure will include the Fans Challenge and Skills Challenge, providing fans with thrilling prizes and an engaging experience.

With D’Banj’s Koko FC, Don Jazzy’s Supremos FC, and a wide array of clubs participating, Lagos Liga is set to deliver an unforgettable event this December.
