IAPH has announced the selection of Edvard Molitor from the Port of Gothenburg as the new Chair of the IAPH Climate and Energy technical committee.

Molitor, who serves as the Head of International Public Affairs & Sustainability at his port, has been the Vice Chair of the committee since 2021. He succeeds Peter Mollema from the Port of Rotterdam, who recently announced his decision to step down as Chair during the IAPH Annual General Meeting, although he will continue to support IAPH's initiatives.

From 2017 to 2020, Edvard led the Sustainable Development Committee of the European SeaPorts Organisation. He possesses extensive international expertise in environmental management, sustainable development, maritime operations, and marine pollution response.

His previous roles include positions at SSPA Sweden AB, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), and the Swedish Coast Guard Headquarters.

In his current capacity at the Port of Gothenburg, Molitor is responsible for International Public Affairs & Sustainability and acts as the primary representative of the port authority in global organizations and associations concerning sustainability and environmental issues.

IAPH Managing Director Patrick Verhoeven remarked: “We express our gratitude to Peter Mollema for his significant contributions to IAPH over the years and appreciate Edvard's willingness to further the efforts of one of our essential committees.

“His extensive experience as an active IAPH member, along with his involvement in the World Ports Climate Action Program focusing on clean marine fuels and onshore power supply, as well as his board membership in the IAPH Environmental Ship Index, will be invaluable.

“With the integration of WPCAP activities into the Climate and Energy Committee and our goal of collaborating more closely with the IMO on the decarbonization of the shipping industry, Edvard will be instrumental in encouraging greater member participation in both policy and project initiatives to enhance the value of their membership.”

This month, it was revealed that the World Ports Climate Action Program (WPCAP) will integrate with the IAPH Climate and Energy Committee, enhancing worldwide decarbonization initiatives and expediting sustainable fuel projects.
