Fuji artist Taye Currency has extended an apology to his fellow musician, Wasiu Pasuma, following a comment he made about him during a recent performance.

In a video posted on the Oyo Affairs Instagram account, Taye Currency expressed his discontent with fans who referred to Pasuma as his 'father' in the music scene. He clarified that he views Pasuma more as an elder brother and asserted that he cannot be considered a father figure to him.

Additionally, in a video shared on the Kakaki Anobi Oluomo fans page, Taye Currency urged social media users to refrain from stirring up conflict between him and Pasuma, reiterating his original stance.

His comments sparked significant online debate, with many of Pasuma's fans criticizing Taye Currency for his remarks. In light of the backlash, Taye Currency released a viral video on Wednesday, explaining that his comments had been misunderstood and expressing regret for any offense they may have caused.

He emphasized the need for credible journalism and encouraged support for fact-based reporting created by Nigerians for Nigerians.

Taye Currency also apologized to Pasuma and anyone else who may have been hurt by his statements about the 56-year-old artist.

He concluded with a message: “Good day, everyone. My name is Alhaji Taye Currency. In light of the recent rumors circulating on social media, I want to greet our people and those who love us, especially the fans and supporters of Pasuma and Taye Currency, as well as all lovers of Fuji music.”

Individuals who misinterpreted my remarks should not feel upset; I genuinely apologize for the situation. It is common for our words to be perceived in various ways, and I have come to recognize this. Some have viewed my comments as disrespectful towards Pasuma, but I fail to see how any of my statements could be deemed offensive. He is my superior. Arabanbi, Apesin, Oganla Fuji—we are united, so I urge you not to create divisions among us.

He acknowledged Pasuma as his superior, stressing that he never intended to insult him.

Furthermore, he reiterated his respect for Pasuma and his dedication to remain loyal.

“Alhaji Alabi Pasuma is my superior; he recognizes my loyalty. To avoid any misunderstanding, I apologize, Pasuma. You are an elder, and I also extend my greetings to Kollington Ayinla for the reminder, Kwam1 for highlighting the matter, and the President of Fuji in Nigeria, Alhaji SK Sensation.

“Wishing you all long lives. To Pasuma’s fan club, I apologize; Taye Currency fans, one love; and to all Fuji musicians, our bond remains strong. Alhaji Alao, please do not be upset,” he stated.

Taye Currency began his music journey as a teenager and co-founded the ‘Currency Band’ with his late twin brother and manager, Rahmon Akilapa.

He attributes his achievements to his strong character, relentless work ethic, and the invaluable guidance of his mentor, Pasuma.

In 2008, he launched his debut album, ‘Millennium’, which established him as a significant presence in the Fuji music genre.
