The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has granted approval for the Kogi State Government's proposal to construct an international airport in Zariagi.

In a statement released on Friday, State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, noted that the approval was communicated through a letter from the Federal Ministry, dated October 9, 2024.

He emphasized that the administration led by Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo is dedicated to ensuring the project's timely completion while strictly adhering to regulatory standards. The establishment of an airport in Kogi State is expected to benefit ten neighboring states and alleviate congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road, as well as reduce traffic at the Abuja International Airport.

“The Ododo Administration prioritizes the development of an international airport for Kogi State, aiming to position it as a significant player in the aviation sector. The state's strategic location offers a unique advantage in tapping into the aviation service market at the heart of the nation.

“This initiative will not only enhance the state's economy but also generate employment opportunities and elevate Kogi State's profile on the global stage.

“The governor is committed to engaging top professionals in the industry to ensure the project's success. As is well known, the aviation sector relies heavily on trust and adherence to standards.

“We express our gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Aviation Minister for this landmark approval, which will significantly contribute to the development of Kogi State. Additionally, the airport will be designed to accommodate cargo operations, which is a key focus of the project,” the commissioner remarked.

Fanwo reassured the citizens of Kogi State that the administration of Alh. Usman Ododo will persist in implementing impactful projects to build upon the achievements of the past eight years in the state.

Zariagi is a strategically positioned community that features an existing airstrip. The representatives from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development expressed their approval of both the location and the Kogi State Government's plans for the project.
