Polaris Bank is set to enhance the skills of media professionals through a capacity-building workshop in 2024.
Polaris Bank is dedicated to empowering the Nigerian media and enhancing its essential role as a societal watchdog. To further this commitment, the bank is hosting an open workshop for journalists from all sectors of the media as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at positively influencing key stakeholders.
The 2024 media workshop, themed ‘Integrating AI Tools in Contemporary Media Practices for Innovation and Excellence,’ is part of the bank’s strategic CSR efforts focused on education and capacity building, which aim to strengthen media relations and contribute to the advancement of Nigeria’s media environment.
Set for Thursday, October 24, this workshop intends to provide media professionals with the latest tools and skills necessary to address the evolving challenges of modern journalism.
Participants will explore relevant Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and learn how to incorporate these technologies into their daily operations, enhancing news-gathering efficiency and ensuring accurate storytelling.
The workshop will also cover contemporary new media tools and practices, while highlighting opportunities for career advancement.
Key topics will include data journalism, fact-checking, and solutions journalism, equipping media professionals to excel in the digital age.
Building on the success and insights gained from previous workshops, particularly the 2023 edition that saw participation from hundreds of journalists, the 2024 event is set to deliver even more value.
This year’s program will emphasize emerging trends, including media entrepreneurship and strategies for career development in a competitive media landscape.
To conduct a successful workshop, the bank has engaged leading faculty and esteemed subject matter experts as facilitators, including Dr. Chike Mgbeadichie, a Senior Lecturer at the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University in Lekki, Lagos, and Lekan Otufodunrin, Executive Director of the Media Career Development Network.
Their vast expertise in media and communication will assist participants in navigating the challenges of remaining relevant, adapting to technological changes, and upholding ethical journalism standards.
This initiative underscores Polaris Bank’s enduring dedication to capacity building, particularly in empowering media professionals to tackle the complexities of the digital era.
By equipping attendees with the latest insights and resources, the workshop seeks to enhance the ongoing development of journalists and the media landscape in Nigeria, while promoting sustainable and impactful journalism.
Polaris Bank has been recognized as Nigeria’s Digital Bank of the Year for three consecutive years—2021, 2022, and 2023—by Business Day’s Banks and Other Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards.
