A statement released by SROL on Sunday revealed that the award was given at a ceremony celebrating the nation’s foremost non-oil exporters.
During the event, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, praised the essential role these companies play in enhancing the country’s economic development.
The statement further emphasized that this recognition highlights SROL’s important contribution to Nigeria’s ongoing economic diversification efforts.
In reference to the recognition, the Country Manager for SROL, Mr. Austin Menegbo, expressed that the acknowledgment from NEPC further solidified SROL’s position as a prominent entity in non-oil exports and sustainable development.
“This recognition serves as a testament to our unwavering dedication to supporting Nigeria’s economic diversification through robust export initiatives. At SROL, we take pride in contributing to national development, particularly in the realm of job creation. Notably, 44% of our workforce is drawn from Osun State, while 28% originate from our host communities. This underscores our commitment to fostering sustainable growth and providing opportunities within the regions where we operate.”
Menegbo also said, “This acknowledgment encourages us to continue our journey towards sustainable development and community enrichment. We are excited about the future and remain committed to making even greater contributions to Nigeria’s export landscape.
“As the operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold mine, SROL’s flagship project, the Segilola Gold Mine, has set a precedent in the country’s mining sector.”
Situated in Osun State, the mine initiated commercial production in the year 2022 and accomplished an output of 98,006 troy ounces of gold during its inaugural year of operation. Subsequently, in the year 2023, the mine successfully produced an additional 84,609 troy ounces, thereby showcasing consistent operational performance.
