Equinor, a Norwegian energy company, has temporarily suspended production at its Sleipner B gas platform in the North Sea due to a smoke alert in an electrical facility. Despite this disruption, Equinor remains committed to fulfilling its supply obligations by optimizing production from alternative fields. This information was disclosed on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed, "We will continue to meet our supply obligation."
As Europe's largest natural gas supplier and a significant oil producer, Norway extracts approximately 4 million barrels of oil equivalent daily from over 90 offshore fields, with gas accounting for about half of this output.
The Sleipner field's export capacity has been temporarily reduced by 7.1 million cubic meters of gas per day, bringing it down to 11.0 million cubic meters, while Norway's total planned exports for the day were reported at 336 million cubic meters, according to Gassco, the gas export system operator.
Equinor's emergency team was notified of the incident at Sleipner B at 0240 GMT. The duration of the outage remains uncertain, as indicated by the company.
