Nigerian artist Jaywon has extended an apology to his fellow musician Ayra Starr after facing accusations of ridiculing her for not receiving a nomination at the Grammys.

The nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards were recently revealed, and Ayra Starr was notably absent from the list, despite her impressive achievements this year.

In the wake of the announcement, Jaywon, who has had a contentious online relationship with Ayra Starr, posted a picture of himself with two Grammy awards, which many interpreted as a jab at her.

Following the ensuing criticism, Jaywon has since expressed regret for his actions.

He acknowledged Ayra Starr as one of the top female vocalists in Africa and clarified that his intention is to uplift others rather than bring them down.

“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.

“On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan,” the singer wrote.

Mr. Jaywon is an voting member of the Recording Academy, the prestigious organization responsible for administering the Grammy Awards.
