During a recent appearance on the Madame Joyce podcast, Falz revealed his unique work schedule, dedicating his daytime hours to the legal profession and transitioning to his music career during the evening.
He acknowledged the challenges of managing both professions, particularly within the legal field, where there is an implicit expectation for lawyers to focus solely on their legal practice.
Falz recounted a memorable courtroom experience where a judge recognized his dual roles and engaged in a conversation about his music career.
He stated, “There was a time I was in court, living a double life. Lawyer by day, rapper by night.
“When I introduced myself, saying ‘With profound respect my lord, the name is Folarin the Falana, appearing for the plaintiff,’ the judge adjusted his glasses and asked, ‘Counsel, are you not the one doing something else on the side?’
“There exists an unspoken rule of professional conduct in legal practice that discourages engaging in other pursuits.”
