The Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University in Edo State, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. A press release from the CVCNU on Tuesday confirmed that Ezemonye will succeed Prof. Lilian Salami, whose term concludes on December 1, 2024.

During the recent annual meeting of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye was elected as the new Chairman. Additionally, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, has been chosen as the Alternate Chairman. 

The Executive Board of the CVCNU now includes: Prof. Tanko Ishaya, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos (Alternate Chairman, CVCNU Federal); Prof. Kabiru Adeyemo, Vice-Chancellor of Lead City University (Alternate Chairman, CVCNU Private); Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ojo (Chairman, CVCNU State); and Prof. Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola, Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (Alternate, CVCNU State).

Prof. Ezemonye's election marks a significant milestone as he becomes the fifth female Vice-Chancellor to hold the Chair position. The CVCNU Secretariat wishes the new Chairman and all Executive Board members success in their upcoming leadership roles.

With over 30 years of experience in teaching and research, Ezemonye is a distinguished professor of ecotoxicology and environmental forensics. Igbinedion University recognizes him as an expert consultant in environmental safety and renewable energy. He is also a fellow of the Nigerian Environmental Society, the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria, the West African Society of Toxicology, and the Academy of Science.

The Nigerian Universities' Committee of Vice-Chancellors serves as the overarching body for Vice-Chancellors from Federal, State, and Private Universities across Nigeria.
