International Men's Day (IMD) is recognized worldwide to raise awareness about numerous challenges faced by men, such as parental alienation, abuse, homelessness, suicide, and violence, and is celebrated annually on November 19. The goals of International Men's Day are outlined in 'All the Six Pillars of International Men's Day'. It is also a time to honor the lives, achievements, and contributions of boys and men, particularly their impact on the nation, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare.
The International Men's Day project was launched on February 7, 1992, by Thomas Oaster, following its initial conception on February 8, 1991. In 1999, the initiative was revitalized in Trinidad and Tobago. Malta holds the distinction of hosting the longest-running International Men's Day celebrations, having commenced on February 7, 1994. As Malta was the sole nation recognizing the February date to honor men's contributions to society, the Maltese AMR Committee decided in 2009 to move the observance of International Men's Day to November 19.
