The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), has characterized the launch of XEJet’s scheduled operations as a reflection of the robustness and tenacity of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Keyamo made this statement during the inaugural flight from Abuja to Lagos, which featured the airline's CRJ200 configured entirely for business class, on Saturday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the airline's journey commenced after a brief ceremony in Abuja and concluded in Lagos, where another short event was held before the return flight to Abuja.
Represented by Mr. Hassan Ejibunu, Director of Airworthiness at the Ministry of Aviation, Keyamo emphasized that XEJet’s entry into the market would elevate the standards of service, comfort, and safety for Nigerian travelers.
“The flight from Abuja to Lagos today marks not just the launch of a new airline; it symbolizes the resilience and strength of Nigerian aviation, along with the promising opportunities that lie ahead.
“Each new route and aircraft introduced enhances our air network, improves passenger convenience, and stimulates tourism and business throughout Nigeria,” Keyamo remarked.
In addition, the Chief Executive Officer of XEJet, Mr. Emmanuel Iza, announced that the airline has received an Embraer E190, which is currently undergoing inspections, with plans to begin operations with it on November 7.
Iza expressed his confidence in XEJet’s commitment to safety and comfort, stating, “At XEJet, our focus is not merely on seat size.
“It revolves around safety, comfort, luxury, and the quality of service we deliver.
“Whether it’s the spacious 22-inch seats on the CRJs providing premium comfort or the Embraer 145 with seats measuring 16 to 18 inches wide, our service is what truly distinguishes us,” he concluded.
In discussing the airline's growth trajectory and future expansion strategies, Iza stated, "I am a firm believer in data; this is a current initiative, and we will allow the data to guide our subsequent decisions.
"Rest assured, these routes are not influenced by political factors. Our shareholders are present today, observing how their investments will yield returns.
"Therefore, if I notice an increase in demand for Maiduguri, I will pursue it. If the numbers indicate potential for Benin, I will pursue that as well. It all comes down to the data."
Additionally, Mr. Sukh Mann, the Chief Operating Officer of XEJet, praised the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority for its efficient certification process.
