Rodri, the Ballon d'Or winner from Manchester City, has expressed that he would consider a move to Real Madrid if the "best team in history" were to express interest in him.

During an appearance on a well-known sports talk radio show in Spain on Thursday evening, Rodri was asked how he would react if Madrid sought to sign him. He stated, "When Real Madrid, recognized as the best club in history with the most titles and everything it represents, comes knocking, it is undoubtedly an honor, and one must take notice." However, he quickly added that he is content at City.

Spanish players who are not part of Madrid or Barcelona often face inquiries from the media about their potential interest in joining these rival clubs, and their answers frequently attract significant attention.

At 28 years old, Rodri is contracted with City until June 2027. He is currently in recovery following surgery for a ruptured ACL and a damaged meniscus, injuries sustained to his right knee in September.

A month later, he made history by becoming the first Spanish man to win the Ballon d'Or in over sixty years, while Aitana Bonmatí secured her second consecutive award for the top female player.

Real Madrid chose not to attend the gala after learning that Rodri had outperformed forward Vinícius Júnior. Rodri remarked that he did not take Madrid's absence personally.

"It’s a choice made by a person or a club, and I don’t wish to attach too much significance to it," he told Cadena Ser.

Rodri emphasized his happiness in England and at City, where he has contributed to coach Pep Guardiola's success, including a Champions League title and four Premier League championships since joining the club in 2019, following his time with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid in Spain.

His recognition as the world's best player came after he played a pivotal role in helping Spain secure the European Championship this summer, underscoring the significance of the often-overlooked contributions made by defensive midfielders.

The impact of a central midfielder is frequently recognized only in their absence, representing a nearly unseen aspect of soccer, he remarked. "I think this Ballon d'Or brings attention to its significance."

For nearly twenty years, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the primary recipients of the Ballon d'Or. In 2018, attacking midfielder Luka Modric claimed the award. The last player who was not an attacker to receive it was Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro in 2006.
