Commodore Duja Effedua (Retd.), the Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), has formally announced his decision to resign from his position. Despite having over a year remaining in his second eight-year term, Commodore Effedua cited personal reasons for his choice to step down.

He has officially submitted his resignation to the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, expressing his belief that this is the most suitable time for him to transition out of his role.

"My reasons are personal; I believe the time is right to move on," he stated. "I have accomplished my goal of establishing new benchmarks at the nation's leading maritime training institution. It is preferable to depart when the applause is loudest, rather than when one is compelled to leave."

Throughout his tenure, Commodore Effedua played a crucial role in the transformation of the Academy. He led a thorough reform of the institution by tackling financial inefficiencies, enhancing cadet accommodations and previously inadequate meal services, and improving orientation programs for both academic and non-academic personnel. Furthermore, he expanded and renovated staff housing, completed numerous stalled projects, and initiated the construction of new facilities to elevate the Academy's standing to meet international standards.

Commodore Effedua's resignation signifies the conclusion of a pivotal period of reform and advancement at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria.
