Recently, Nollywood professionals and their Hollywood counterparts convened in Los Angeles, United States, to collaborate and bridge the cinematic gap between the two industries.

This gathering occurred during the second edition of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) International Festival, aptly titled "Nollywood meets Hollywood." The event took place at the prestigious Dream Magic Studio in Los Angeles.

Emeka Rollas, the National President of AGN, characterized the festival as a remarkable success in a statement released on Friday.

He noted that the event attracted representatives from the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), casting directors, prominent entertainment figures, and members of the Nigerian community in Hollywood.

Rollas emphasized that the festival aimed to create unique business opportunities within the film industry.

He stated, “This initiative is a crucial step towards bridging cultural and cinematic divides, as AGN members were brought to Los Angeles, the headquarters of SAG-AFTRA, for this groundbreaking meeting.

“The purpose of this strategic visit was to promote collaboration and establish twinning arrangements between AGN and SAG-AFTRA.

“Discussions during the meeting focused on integrating Nollywood into SAG-AFTRA’s casting and production networks, which would enhance global representation and diversity.

“Key areas of interest included casting opportunities, co-productions, capacity building, understanding royalties, and global distribution.

“We explored ways to facilitate the distribution of Nollywood content to wider audiences globally, while also exchanging knowledge and expertise to improve industry standards and professionalism,” he remarked.

Rollas concluded by highlighting that the festival is poised to foster partnerships that will encourage cultural exchange programs, stimulate economic growth, and enhance diversity.

He characterized the historic meeting with SAG-AFTRA as a significant milestone for Nollywood.

"This marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration for Nollywood, as the visit represents a crucial step towards establishing a strong alliance between Nollywood and the American entertainment sector.

"As discussions advance, we are entering a new phase of creative partnership that will enhance global recognition and appreciation of Nigerian talent.

"We are enthusiastic about exploring avenues for growth, cultural exchange, and mutual benefits, which will reinforce our industry's standing on the international stage.

"As this partnership develops, audiences can anticipate thrilling collaborations, innovative perspectives, and engaging storytelling that emerge from the dynamic blend of Nollywood and American cinema.

"Through this festival, we aim to foster broader collaboration among filmmakers and actors, enabling them to directly and indirectly tap into the global creative opportunities available in this space."

Will Benssusen, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of SAG-AFTRA, committed to continuing support for the AGN and ensuring that its members gain access to Hollywood, recognizing the wealth of acting talent present in Nollywood.
