Singer Lekan Osifeso Junior, known as Lojay, has expressed that, contrary to common belief, individuals from affluent backgrounds do not possess a distinct advantage in the music industry.

He argued that it can actually be more challenging for those from wealthy families to achieve success in the Nigerian music scene, as there is a tendency among Nigerians to ridicule the rich.

In a recent interview with City 105.1 FM in Lagos, the artist behind the hit song 'Monalisa' stated that he stands out as an exception, emphasizing that his talent speaks for itself, regardless of his privileged upbringing.

“Nigerians have a tendency to shame the wealthy. This phenomenon extends beyond the music industry. When people perceive that you have an advantage, it’s ironic because those from affluent backgrounds often face disadvantages. They enter the music industry at a disadvantage, as many believe they are already well-off and therefore do not warrant much support,” he explained.

When asked by the interviewer if he had ever faced such challenges, Lojay confidently responded, “I am undeniably talented. They cannot attempt that with me. Let them challenge me on the mic.”

“Mine was an inevitable situation. I heard myself before I decided to be an artist. I didn’t deceive myself. I have never done payola. My parents didn’t use their wealth to influence people to accept my music. My rich background has not influenced my career positively. If anything, being from a rich home is a disadvantage in the music industry.”
