The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has officially ended its two-week strike and has instructed its members to return to work on Monday. The strike, which began on December 2, 2024, was initiated due to the Federal Government's failure to address the union's demands.

ASUP President Shammah Kpanja announced that a conciliation meeting was held by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to address the ongoing dispute. Kpanja stated, “During the strike, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment organized a conciliation meeting between our Union and the government on December 9, 2024, to resolve the issues and prevent a potential indefinite strike.”

He further explained that a new memorandum of understanding was established during this meeting, with an agreement to reconvene on January 23, 2025, to evaluate compliance from both parties and discuss additional concerns.

Following this development, the Union’s National Executive Council will convene to assess the situation. Consequently, all Union members are instructed to resume their duties starting Monday, December 16, 2024.

Kpanja expressed gratitude to the members for their dedication and resilience, emphasizing the Union's hope that the government will actively work towards a satisfactory resolution of the outstanding issues.
