A highly anticipated film by renowned Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, known as AY, titled "The Waiters," is set to premiere in cinemas on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Produced by Corporate World Entertainment and directed by Toka McBaror, the film presents a narrative that resonates with a wide audience.

During a recent Exhibitors’ Luncheon in Lagos, Makun shared that the film features his iconic character ‘Akpos,’ who has appeared in previous works like ‘Christmas in Miami’ and ‘Trip to Jamaica,’ showcasing authentic Nigerian storytelling.

He emphasized that the film is rich in quality, action, and emotional depth, making it relatable to viewers. “We cannot go to America and tell their stories better than they do, just as they cannot tell our stories better than we can. Our goal was to capture the essence of homegrown quality and content that reflects our narrative. We have a beautiful story to tell. 'The Waiter' is a film that everyone can connect with,” Makun stated.

The film will showcase the talents of prominent Nollywood actors, including Regina Daniels, Deyemi Okanlawon, Shaffy Bello, and Williams Uchemba, along with Toke Makinwa, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and AY Makun himself.

Reflecting on the filmmaking process, McBaror remarked, “Creating 'The Waiter' demanded significant mental, physical, and financial investment. I am thrilled that we were able to transform the script into an epic film. This project is unique compared to my previous works; there is something extraordinary about it. I encourage everyone to visit the cinemas on December 20 to experience the film's energy.”

Producer Darlington Abuda highlighted that the film addresses relatable societal issues, igniting meaningful discussions and reflections.

Mr. Makun lauded the co-distribution agreement forged between Genesis Pictures and Silverbird Distribution for "The Waiter," characterizing it as a significant step forward for the Nigerian film industry.

He stated that this collaboration represents a breakthrough, marking the first instance of two distribution companies joining forces to promote a single film, signifying a pivotal shift towards collaborative industry growth.
