In a recent Netflix special, the 56-year-old artist recounted the health emergency that led to his hospitalization due to a brain bleed, which ultimately caused a stroke.
Foxx shared that the incident started with a severe headache, followed by a concerning 20-day period of unconsciousness.
In April 2023, while filming a movie in Atlanta, Foxx was hospitalized. His daughter Corinne announced on social media that he had "experienced a medical complication." Foxx later credited his daughter, his sister Diedra Dixon, and the medical team with saving his life, noting that he had no recollection of nearly three weeks following the incident.
In his newly released special on Netflix, Foxx disclosed that he suffered a brain bleed that resulted in a stroke. He spent 20 days in a coma, and his condition was so critical that his family came to be by his side, all while they tried to maintain privacy regarding his health status.
"I went to hell and back," Foxx remarked.
Upon waking from the coma, he found himself in a wheelchair and unable to walk. The Oscar-winning actor shared that he had to relearn fundamental skills and depended on nurses for everyday tasks like bathing. Although doctors indicated that recovery was feasible, they warned it would be a challenging journey.
Throughout the special, Foxx demonstrated the remarkable progress he had made. He sang, danced, and played the piano, attributing his healing to the support of his family and his faith.
