Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is confident that Mykhailo Mudryk did not intentionally consume a prohibited supplement. The club announced on Tuesday that the Football Association had informed them of an "adverse finding" in a urine sample collected from the 23-year-old Ukrainian winger.

Mudryk conveyed his astonishment via an Instagram post, characterizing the 'A' sample results as "completely unexpected" and asserting his innocence regarding any intentional ingestion of prohibited substances.

Maresca stated on Wednesday, "We are confident in Mudryk. In such circumstances, unwavering support for our player is paramount. Mudryk is a valued member of Chelsea, and maintaining open communication with him is my responsibility. The club, his teammates, and I offer him our full support. Our confidence in Mudryk is unwavering."

Athletes are cautioned on the UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) website that a four-year ban may be imposed if a banned substance is found to have been taken intentionally. However, if the violation involves a specified substance or a contaminated product, and the athlete can prove they had no significant fault, the penalty could range from two years to a mere reprimand, depending on the degree of fault.

Mudryk has participated in fifteen Chelsea matches this season, most recently contributing a goal in the 2-0 Conference League victory over Heidenheim on November 28th. His last appearance marked his third goal of the season. He has been absent from the last five matches across all competitions.

Manager Maresca stated his belief in Mr. Mudryk's return, though the precise timing remains uncertain. He emphasized the importance of providing support to all players, regardless of background, during challenging periods.

Maresca affirmed his commitment to assisting Mudryk, acknowledging the player's natural reliance on the club, coaching staff, and teammates for support. This support will be provided comprehensively.

Chelsea acquired Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported £88.5 million ($112 million) in January 2023.

West Ham United, currently second in the Premier League and leading the European Conference League, will face Shamrock Rovers on Thursday.
