Olanike Nafisat Balogun, Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot), has achieved a historic milestone as the Nigeria Customs Service's first female pilot, successfully transitioning from a cabin crew member to a pioneering aviator.

A statement issued Sunday by the NCS on X indicates that Ms. Balogun is a Kaduna native from Osun State's Odo-Otin Local Government Area.

Her distinguished career began in 2002 when she joined the NCS Airwing Unit as a Customs Assistant.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted Balogun's resilience and ambition, acknowledging the organization's contribution to her professional achievements.

“Choosing to remain in the Service while many of my peers pursued more lucrative airline positions was a challenging choice, but I was resolute in my desire to serve the public and fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot,” she remarked.

Balogun's accomplishments include obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and her Pilot Certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, all fully sponsored by the NCS.

Reflecting on her milestone, Balogun stated, “Being the first female pilot in the Service underscores my dedication to pursuing my dreams and enhancing the operational effectiveness of the NCS.”

She further expressed, “I aspire for my journey to inspire young Nigerians, particularly women, to pursue their ambitions and overcome obstacles.”

The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, praised her achievement, describing it as a testament to the NCS’s commitment to capacity building and innovation.

“Her story illustrates the possibilities that arise from determination and institutional support,” he remarked.
