The National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited additional foreign schools to participate in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This information was shared by Mr. Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, in an official statement.

The newly accredited institutions are located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea. The NECO Accreditation Team conducted visits to these schools to evaluate their preparedness for the SSCE and BECE. During the assessment, the team examined various facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities, to ensure they meet the necessary standards for NECO examinations.

Following a detailed evaluation, the schools were awarded full accreditation for both the SSCE and BECE. The statement emphasized that the inclusion of more foreign schools reflects NECO’s dedication to delivering quality education and assessment services beyond Nigeria's borders.

With its growing international presence, NECO aims to establish itself as a prominent examination authority in Africa, providing students worldwide with access to its expertise and contributing to the enhancement of education across the continent and beyond.

Additionally, the statement noted that candidates are currently participating in the ongoing NECO SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic, marking the UNHCR School in Diffa as the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria. NECO examinations are now available to candidates in Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia.
