Nigeria has been selected to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT). The AACT, a biennial women's golf championship first held in Zimbabwe in May 1992, will be hosted by Nigeria for the third time, following previous events in 1996 at the Ikoyi Club 1938 and in 2010 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

Notably, the West and Central Africa Challenge Trophy, a regional variant of the AACT, was successfully held in Nigeria for the first time in 2023 at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Estates and Resort in Lagos.

Evelyn Oyome, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria and head of the Nigerian delegation at the championship’s 16th edition in Morocco, announced that Nigeria triumphed over 20 competing nations in the bidding process.

“Nigeria previously hosted the West and Central Africa Challenge Trophy in October last year at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate and Resort in Lagos, which featured participation from over 10 countries. Our successful execution of that event significantly strengthened our bid against other contenders, making this victory a significant achievement for Nigeria,” she stated.

Oyome confirmed that the Federal Capital Territory will be the host city for the 2026 AACT, with expectations of participation from at least 30 countries. “The FCT fulfilled all the necessary criteria to be a host city, and it presents a wonderful opportunity to welcome Africa to our nation’s capital. The AACT serves as a vital platform for promoting Nigeria, akin to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in football,” she added.

The 16th edition of the AACT was held in Morocco for the first time at the Golf de Tazegzout in Agadir from November 28 to 30, where the Moroccan national women’s team achieved a remarkable victory, signifying a new chapter in the development of golf in Morocco.

The prestigious African women’s golf competition featured participation from 20 countries, including South Africa, which has won 14 of the 15 prior editions, while Morocco emerged as a standout performer.
