The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing local content development within Nigeria's energy sector, aiming to promote sustainable industry growth. This pledge was articulated by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, during the ongoing 13th Practical Nigerian Content Forum in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

In a statement issued by Femi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, it was highlighted that local content not only empowers domestic enterprises but also stimulates innovation, thereby ensuring a resilient oil and gas sector capable of meeting both local and international demands.

Kyari, represented by Udobong Ntia, the Executive Vice President of Upstream, underscored the importance of the PNC Forum as a vital platform for stakeholders to evaluate progress, exchange best practices, and pinpoint strategic growth opportunities. He remarked that the landmark Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act of 2010 has initiated a transformative phase for local businesses, enabling them to compete on a global level.

“The PNC has initiated numerous programs to address stakeholder concerns and optimize the advantages of our abundant resources. We share a collective responsibility to empower local enterprises and foster innovation to ensure a strong oil and gas sector that satisfies both local and global needs,” Kyari stated.

The Group Chief Executive Officer further stressed the necessity of developing local capabilities, adopting advanced technologies, and cultivating partnerships to establish a sustainable energy future for Nigeria. He also referenced the recent Presidential Directive on Local Content Compliance Requirements for 2024, emphasizing that it reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing local content as a fundamental aspect of national strategy.

“This directive should instill confidence and reinforce our commitment to the local content strategy,” Kyari concluded.

This year's PNC forum centers on the theme, “Defining the Next Frontier for Nigerian Content Implementation,” highlighting the shared objective of promoting local content within the energy sector.

Additionally, he elaborated on NNPC Ltd’s strategic efforts to bolster the capabilities of domestic companies, which include the reorganization of NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd and the establishment of NNPC Engineering and Technical Company Ltd as a comprehensive engineering firm.

He urged conference attendees to participate actively, exchange ideas, and build networks that would expedite Nigeria's path to energy self-sufficiency.

“By working together, we can develop a dynamic local content ecosystem that serves the interests of all Nigerians,” he concluded.
