The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is extending its operating hours from today, December 10, to December 20, 2024, by an additional two hours each day for all services.

During this period, offices will now close at 18:00 instead of the usual 16:00. To alleviate the burden on clients, Home Affairs has implemented dedicated counters for collections in larger offices that handle Smart ID Cards and passports, where space permits.

Clients can choose to schedule application or collection appointments prior to their visit using the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS), accessible on the DHA website at www.dha.gov.za via this link: https://services.dha.gov.za/#/authenticate/identity.

Additionally, the Department welcomes clients who may not have the opportunity to book appointments to come in as walk-ins. We encourage all clients who have applied for their identification documents and have been waiting for three weeks or longer to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting their local Home Affairs office to collect these essential documents at their convenience.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber stated: "These extended hours and process enhancements reflect our dedication to providing dignity to all our clients. We recognize that many individuals will be traveling during the festive season, which is why Home Affairs is making extra efforts to ensure South Africans receive the necessary documents to enjoy valuable time with loved ones."
