Justice Ekerete Akpan approved the bail after Speed Darlington pleaded not guilty to two counts of cybercrime brought against him by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun. His legal team, led by Mr. Abubakar Marshal, filed the bail application.
The court specified that the surety must be a Level 10 civil servant residing in Abuja, and they must either work for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) or be a federal employee.
Additionally, the surety is required to provide an affidavit of means, and their residential address will be verified. They must also submit their appointment letters and proof of their last promotion, which will be checked by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.
Until these conditions are met, the court ordered that the defendant remain in Kuje prison and scheduled the next hearing for March 18.
It’s worth noting that Darlington got into hot water after suggesting that his fellow artist, Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, had a romantic relationship with American musician Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy, which he claimed helped Burna win a Grammy.
Darlington was initially arrested and released on October 8, 2024, but was re-arrested for not adhering to the terms of his earlier administrative bail.
