The announcement of Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Face, and Annie Idibia's divorce after 13 years of marriage has stirred up quite a buzz among celebrities, with actress Mary Remmy Njoku and media personality Toke Makinwa sharing their thoughts.

Celebrities and social media folks are calling out Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba, after he confirmed his split from his wife, Annie.

On Monday, BrandIconImage shared that in a video on his Instagram story, 2Baba made it clear that he and Annie Idibia are separated, following a previous claim in a now-deleted post that his account had been hacked.

“Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now, and currently filing for divorce.

“I would grant a press release soon to say my story. Not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offence. Stay blessed my people. I love you all”, he stated.

Not long after, the singer shared another post saying his account had been hacked. He wrote, “My Instagram account has been hacked, efforts are being carried out to take back control. #onelove!”

Then, in a twist, 2Baba uploaded two videos to clear things up. He revealed that his account actually hadn’t been hacked, going against what he had said before.

“Yo, bless some more people. Nobody hacked my accounts. Na me yarn weytin I yarn.”

“Yo, my people man, nobody hacked my account. Nah me talk weytin I wan talk. You understand? I come in peace”, he stated in the video.

After the news of their breakup, the singer got some heat from a few celebrities and social media users who weren't too happy about his choice, while a handful of others showed their support for him.

TV personality Toke Makinwa reacted to the singer's announcement about his split from Annie, saying,  “This is wrong on all levels, you should be ashamed for bringing this here. Bring it on, if you think she is alone; let me tell you here that you will have to fight us all.”

On her own Instagram, Makinwa emphasized that women need to stand up against any injustice, as it impacts all women, and pointed out that such matters shouldn’t be aired online, especially during a delicate time.

“I’m not one for too much talk, but what is wrong is wrong. But as a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, if it misses, it will touch your daughter or any female in your family. No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it knowing what is happening, we will fight for her.

“Nobody is asking anybody to stay in a situation that’s not serving them any purpose anymore. By all means, leave if you must but why bring this online, at this very moment? We know what is going on behind closed doors. The world doesn’t know anything, it’s already been hectic with opinions flying around and when I say we will fight for her.

“I’m not talking about the general public, A handful of people know the truth and time will tell. Timing is everything. Empathy is everything. You constantly preach love, and you cannot add to the narrative that’s out there when you know what is happening behind closed doors”, she stated.

Nollywood star Mary Remmy Njoku took to her Instagram to say,“Bro, Annie has a family o! Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices, but since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. It’s your choice. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you!.”

Meanwhile, fellow actress Uche Elendu shared her disappointment over 2baba’s public declaration about his split from Annie.

“No love, No accountability, No loyalty, No culture, No bond, No memory, No decorum, No respect, No empathy. I am so disappointed at this betrayal and insensitive public announcement from 2face. At a time like this, love does not count errors.

“The public does not need this information, you are too big for public validation. A woman that locked in on your mess in the public space, IDGAF what goes on behind us, but what we see, we believe. Men will stain your white!!! Most of them forget so fast. Annie left her life for the man she loved, but love has failed her. It is well”, she said.

Nina Ivy from Big Brother Naija shared her thoughts, saying,“I can never, ever, ever be with a man who seeks public validation-never. A man who would dare to use my lowest moments to taunt me on social media? Not. A man who wouldn’t prioritise or support my mental health? Never, ever. Emphasis on never.

“Ladies, you deserve peace and respect in a relationship. Being with someone who values your well-being, supports you privately and publicly, and nurtures your mental health is essential. A man who seeks public validation or uses your vulnerabilities against you shows a lack of emotional maturity and empathy. Protecting your peace and setting those boundaries is powerful.

“When the whole world is against me and the pressure from others is on the rise, I don’t care what issues we’ve had or are still having. As a human being, you should never use a person’s lowest moment to taunt them or add to their struggles. Period!”, she stated.

After 13 years together, 2baba and Annie Macaulay-Idibia's marriage is falling apart. While the 'African Queen' singer has shared some adorable moments with the actress, entrepreneur, and reality TV star on social media, their relationship has faced serious challenges, including infidelity, trust issues, and family conflicts.

On the night of January 26, 2025, 2baba took to Instagram to announce their separation and the upcoming divorce. He promised his fans that he would share his side of the story soon, as they deserve to know what’s been going on between him and Annie.

However, shortly after posting, he deleted the announcement, claiming his account had been hacked. But just a few minutes later, he posted a video clarifying that his account was indeed not hacked and that the separation and divorce are very much real.
