White House Productions has taken a significant step by collaborating with Nigerian singer-songwriter Adekunle Gold to create a documentary that will explore a century of Yoruba music. Titled “The Odyssey,” the film will delve into the history and development of various subcultures within the genre, including Were, Sakara, Apala, Juju, Afro Juju, and Fuji, among others. The project is attracting attention in the music industry, led by a distinguished team of producers, including Executive Producer Bobo Omotayo.

Adekunle Gold will contribute as a producer alongside Tosin Ashafa, Papa Omotayo, and acclaimed director Abba Makama, bringing his industry expertise, extensive network, and passion for Yoruba music to the project. This talented team is dedicated to delivering an engaging and authentic portrayal of our history, culture, and future.

The production of "The Odyssey" is set to take audiences on a profound exploration of Yoruba music, delving into its cultural importance and influence on Afrobeats. The documentary features esteemed music historians, scholars, celebrated artists, legendary musicians, influential producers, record label executives, and music journalists from both the past and present in Nigeria.

Director Abba Makama states, “Working with these producers, each with their own backgrounds and perspectives, has enlivened the creative process. We’ve already captured some incredibly fascinating interviews, and Adekunle Gold’s involvement adds a new dynamic layer to the story.”

Executive Producer Bobo Omotayo adds, “Our goal from the start has been to make a documentary that gives justice to Yoruba music by showcasing its essence. Our dedication to genuine and diverse storytelling is strengthened by Adekunle Gold’s addition to our team.”

Co-producer Adekunle Gold remarks, “This documentary is more than simply another project; it’s an opportunity to highlight the history of a sound that has shaped and will continue to shape music culture around the world. Working with the rest of the team, I can’t wait to bring this story to life with authenticity, energy, and enthusiasm.”

The team is actively seeking potential partners for innovative brand collaborations. Currently, they are working with award-winning photographer Andrew Esiebo, who has joined the crew to document unique and personal moments with the documentary's subjects, both in intimate settings and during performances. This striking collection of photographs will form a special exhibition that captures the deep emotion and vibrancy of these individuals.

The exhibition will coincide with the documentary's premiere, providing audiences with a dynamic experience that celebrates the essence of Yoruba music through both visual and auditory mediums. The release date for "The Odyssey" will be announced shortly.
