Set to premiere in theaters on January 31, 2025, the film delves into themes of marriage, love, and forgiveness, all presented with outstanding production values.
In an exclusive interview with Guardian Life at a private press screening on Tuesday, Ogunsola shared her experiences during the filmmaking process and highlighted what distinguishes this project from her previous works.
“I have done two films in the past, Father’s Day and Another Father’s Day. This is different. Number one, this is bigger in terms of scale.
“The story is different. We talk about marriage, we talk about love. We went very big on costumes. We made over 150 costumes for this film. We went all out to make a film that we believe speaks of excellence, has a very strong message of marriage, love, and forgiveness.
“What makes it different is the effort I put into this one. They say, go big, or go home. This one, I decided to go big, and I went really, really big,” she said.
Challenges
Ogunsola characterized Something About The Briggs as a passion project that took five years to realize. However, the path was fraught with difficulties, especially in obtaining financing for such an ambitious endeavor.
“Something About The Briggs is a five-year dream that came to reality, and the greatest challenge I had to make the film was basically funding because I wanted to really do it big. I didn’t want to compromise; I wanted to go all out. Anyone who sees this film would know that we really went all out for it, and it took quite a while for it to happen.
“I drew my inspiration from life experiences. I talk to people a lot, I see what is going on social media when it concerns marriages,” she explained
An experienced filmmaker takes the lead
In Something About The Briggs, Ogunsola embraces the roles of writer, producer, and director for the first time, marking a significant achievement in her career after nearly ten years of refining her skills.
Her journey in filmmaking commenced in 2015 with her initial screenplay, The Perfect Plan, created for Africa Magic. Since that time, Ogunsola has successfully written, directed, and produced a variety of projects. Notably, her film Another Father’s Day was released in theaters nationwide in 2019 and is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
For this latest endeavor, Ogunsola collaborated with a skilled production team, which included KC Obiajulu as Director of Photography, Abisola Omolade as Art Director, Uvie Enakarhire as Assistant Director, Joseph Duke as Production Manager, Yolanda Okereke as Costume Designer, and T.A’LA Mode Beauty as Makeup Artist.
“It seemed impossible at first, but today, we’re closer to the finish line. Super grateful to God for His help and to everyone who has supported us on this journey,” she shared during the press screening.Star-studded cast
